The (Re-) Inaugural Flight took place on the 3rd November 2017 and was operated by an Icelandair Boeing 757-200 in "Vatnajökull" special livery (TF-FIR). I wanted to fly with Icelandair for a long time before but never did it - so i thought the Inaugural flight to Berlin (my hometown) would be the perfect opportunity to try them and get a very special flight with "pre-flight cake" in Reykjavik and a "Water Salute" after Landing in Berlin! We enter the terminal and proceed to the WOW air check in area to drop our checked bag, before we head to Premium Security. Once we have cleared security we proceed to the No. 1 Lounge, which is busy on this Saturday morning. We enjoy a lovely breakfast with stunning views across the airport, before it is time to head to our gate. We make our way through the busy terminal and it isn't long before the aircraft is ready to boarding, and we make our way to board this brand new Airbus A321. We take our seat in seat 3A and the captain obtains our route clearance to Keflavik. However at almost the same time another airline, British Airways, suffer a system wide computer failure which has a knock on effect as pushback tugs are stuck on BA aircraft. We wait for almost an hour for a tug to become available, before finally a tug arrives and we are able to push back and get on our way. We taxi out to runway 26L at Gatwick, before departing to the west and making a right turn towards London. We get a great view of London below as we climb towards our cruising altitude of 36,000ft. We head towards the northwest of Scotland talking to London and Scottish control on ATC, before beginning our Atlantic crossing. We obtain our clearance from Shanwick to cross towards Iceland, and head out over the Atlantic. We make a couple of radio check ins with Shanwick and Reykjavik control, before eventually we are handed to Reykjavik domestic control who clear us for our descent towards Keflavik. We are initially cleared for an ILS approach to runway 19, however the captain requests an RNAV approach to runway 10 instead. We are given our vectors for the approach before contacting Keflavik Approach, and finally Keflavik Tower as we commence our final approach. We break through the clouds just as we cross the coastline, and touch down smoothly on runway 10 before taxying into the terminal. We disembark via the forward doors and walk through the terminal to baggage claim, emerging kerbside on a cold day in Keflavik. We leave our shuttle and walk into the terminal, using the WOW Air Self Check In, and dropping our bag. We then head to security and through to the departure lounge, before heading to the non-Schengen gates through passport control at the end of the terminal. Our aircraft arrives from its inbound flight from Berlin-Schonefeld, and it isn't long before we're boarding through the jetway. We take our seat in row 8 and are soon receiving our route clearance to Gatwick. We push back from the terminal, making a departure from runway 10 before being cleared to climb straight to 29,000ft and heading across the North Atlantic. We enter a few patches of turbulence as we head on a track slightly west of usual, heading to the coast of Northern Ireland before crossing the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man. Icelandair Business Class review Boeing 757 Flying Iceland air business class from Reykjavik to London Saga Business Class Icelandair has a 2 -2 layout on the 757 (Saga is what they call their business class product). I had a great short flight with Icelandair on this Boeing 757-200 and the food and service was fantastic. Icelandair started operations in 1937 and remained a small airline until the boom in travel to Iceland giving the airline and country more exposure. #icelandair #sagabusiness #business #businessclass #Whenitraveltheworld #icelandairbusiness #sagabusinessclass #iceland #boeing757 #london Iceland Air Flight 454 Depart: Reykjavik (KEF) Arrive: London (LHR) STD: 4:10pm (ADP: 4:47pm) STA: 8:10pm (ATA: 8:46pm) Aircraft: Boeing 757 Reg: TF-ISV First Flight: 6th Apr 1999 Delivered to Airline: 31st Dec 2015 Seat: 4F Flight Time: 2h 49M Meal Service: Dinner Follow me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/whenitraveltheworld Follow me on Twitter https://twitter.com/whenitravel Like me on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/whenitraveltheworld Music Track listing 1.Ryan Little - Chillhop Instrumental 2.Eventide - Captions

Icelandair is the main airline of Iceland, headquartered at Reykjavík Airport in Reykjavík. It is part of the Icelandair Group and, during the summer of 2015, operated scheduled services to 39 cities in 16 countries on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean out of its hub at Keflavík International Airport. The geographical position of Iceland allows one-stop transatlantic flights, which are one pillar of the airline's business strategy, along with traffic to and from the country. Stopover Since the 1960s, Icelandair has offered passengers travelling on transatlantic flights between the North America and Europe a unique opportunity to stopover in Iceland for up to seven days, at no additional cost. In order to raise awareness about their stopover offer, the company launched a new social media initiative in 2014, with the hashtag #MyStopover. New order On February 13, 2013 Icelandair Group announced that the company had finalized an order with Boeing for sixteen new Boeing 737 MAX planes. Purchase rights for eight additional 737s had also been signed. The value for all sixteen aircraft was USD 1.6 billion at Boeing list prices, but actual purchase price was confidential. The planes will be delivered in 2018-2021. In a press release from Icelandair Group Björgólfur Jóhannsson, president and CEO of the company enthused: "We are pleased to announce that we have finalized agreements on firm orders for 737 MAX. This will further strengthen our business and increase our flexibility and capability for growth. The first aircraft is scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2018 and the aircraft will be operated alongside with the Company’s current fleet of Boeing 757s." The order is for nine 737 MAX 8 airplanes for 153 passengers and seven 737 MAX 9 aircraft which hold 172 passengers. In comparison, Icelandair Group’s current Boeing 757-200 aircraft hold 183 passengers. Boeing 737 MAX is a new, improved and longer version of the present Boeing 737s. Fuel savings compared to Icelandair's present fleet of Boeing 757s are thought to be more than 20% per seat. The Boeing 757 is a mid-size, narrow-body twin-engine jet airliner that was designed and built by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It is the manufacturer's largest single-aisle passenger aircraft and was produced from 1981 to 2004. The twinjet has a two-crew member glass cockpit, turbofan engines, a conventional tail and, for reduced aerodynamic drag, a supercritical wing design. Intended to replace the smaller three-engine 727 on short and medium routes, the 757 can carry 200 to 295 passengers for a maximum of 3,150 to 4,100 nautical miles (5,830 to 7,590 km), depending on variant. The 757 was designed concurrently with a wide-body twinjet, the 767, and owing to shared features pilots can obtain a common type rating that allows them to operate both aircraft. The 757 was produced in two fuselage lengths. The original 757-200 entered service in 1983; the 757-200PF, a package freighter (PF) variant, and the 757-200M, a passenger-freighter combi model, debuted in the late 1980s. The stretched 757-300, the longest narrow-body twinjet ever produced, began service in 1999. Passenger 757-200s have been modified to special freighter (SF) specification for cargo use, while military derivatives include the C-32 transport, VIP carriers, and other multi-purpose aircraft. Private and government operators have also customized the 757 for research and transport roles. All 757s are powered by Rolls-Royce RB211 or Pratt & Whitney PW2000 series turbofans. TRIP REPORT of Icelandair's INAUGURAL FLIGHT from Reykjavik (KEF), Iceland to Berlin Tegel Airport (TXL), Germany. All in all it was a very pleasant 3 hour flight with Icelandair! When I flew to Reykjavik i also tried another airline - which is WOW Air - they fly to Berlin since a few years now - but they serve the "low-budget" airport SXF outside of Berlin. I hope you enjoyed this TRIP REPORT as much as I did enjoy the flight! TRIP REPORT: Join me on my first WOW Air flight from Berlin SXF to Reykjavik/Keflavik Airport (KEF), Iceland aboard a Brand New Airbus A321 Sharklets! WOW Air is a budget airline based at Keflavik Airport (KEF) in Iceland. They offer low fare flights between North America and Europe - each with a stop in Reykjavik. I wanted to experience a Wow Air flight so i flew from my second home airport Berlin SXF to Reykjavik - the flight time is around 3 hours and 10 minutes. My seat for the wing view was 23A and i was lucky again to have 3 seats for myself! Furthermore i bought a sandwich, snack and drink from the paid inflight service to show you what to expect on your Wow Air flight. Route flown: Berlin Schönefeld Airport (SXF), Germany to Reykjavik/Keflavik Airport (KEF), Iceland. Icelandair is a more premium carrier than WOW Air - also based at Keflavik Airport and also offers routes between North America and Europe.
